The Carolinas
Fun Fact: The Carolinas weren’t always North and South - they were once one big happy British colony until they split in 1712. These are the 15th and 16th State Mazes I’ve finished so far! It’s either Ohio or Georgia up next. I’ll flip a coin. I’d say North Carolina is a 5/7 on a difficulty scale, and South Carolina is just a bit easier.
I failed to indicate the start and finish here. The Start is I-95 coming from Virginia and the end is the far western tip. And yes, you get to trace aaaallll the way along the Outer Banks.
The Start for South Carolina is also I-95, this time coming up from the south (from Savannah Georgia). The finish is out I-85 out west, toward Atlanta. The color for this is unintentionally similar to West Virginia. I didn’t even notice until much later!
Classic Solutions, Part 1
I went through several classic mazes from 2007/2008 and added some (possible) solutions for them! I was a lot more forgiving with the paths back then, there are several different paths to solve most of these - the exception being Black Hole Sun, which you better choose the right path from the start or you’re not going anywhere. I’ll work on adding solutions to other old mazes soon.
Virginia
These mazes are trending darker and darker… I love how this turned out though! The start for Virginia is up near Arlington/Washington D.C., and the exit is in the far western tip (Cumberland Gap National Historical Park). Fun fact: Virginia extends further west than West Virginia. As far as difficulty - I haven’t attempted it just yet but I’d say it’s middle-of-the-road. Plenty of wide paths and empty space made this a lot less complicated.
I opted to keep the Delmarva section outside of the maze - it looked a little goofy with a path connecting to it. So it’s just here for aesthetics and map integrity!
West Virginia Solution
West Virginia has several possible routes - this is just one possible solution. Most paths are not dead ends but instead loop back into other areas. I’m not sure if that makes things more frustrating or a little easier. Hopefully the latter!
Maryland Solution
Two mazes in two days! It’s a new record. I went to the other extreme this time; instead of extremely complicated like Pennsylvania, this one was kept very simple - no rivers, no parks, no highways. The background colors on the finished maze (see it on the main page) are intended to reflect the red and yellow in the Maryland state flag.
I’m thinking West Virginia next?
Pennsylvania Maze Timelapse and Solution
Pennsylvania is finished! This one took far too long because of course I managed to overcomplicate it. I’ll try to tone it down on the next maze :) Maryland perhaps? Check out the final product on the main page!
Delaware Maze
It’s here! The most exciting maze in years: “The First State”, Delaware, in all it’s glory.
Delaware gets a bad wrap for being dull, but this actually turned out to be a decently challenging maze! I tried to keep the coloring close to Delaware’s flag (soft yellow and tealish blueish greenish), with some variation.
Check out the Mazes page for the finished version. It’s available as a print here as well: https://society6.com/nebbers. Solution is posted below:
Texas Maze
This maze is truly Texas-sized! This took about 6 days to complete, chipping away at it here and there in the evenings.
The intended start is down in the southern boot - I-69 in Brownsville, with the finish being El Paso in the west. Easier said than done - you’ll end up winding around between San Antonio and Dallas two or three times before you ever make it out to the western half. I tried making the western half a bit more ‘open’ too just as it is in real life, with wider paths and more space between them.
Good luck to anyone who tries to solve this! It won’t be easy… 5 out of 5 on a difficulty scale, I’d guess!
Massachusetts Solution
Here is one possible solution for the Massachusetts maze. It’s a particularly challenging puzzle, especially if you start at Cape Cod and move west (doing this in reverse is easier). I used the highways as a kind of cell divider - forcing you to ‘beat’ one cell before you can move onto the next.
New York State - Time-lapse & Solution
I have a feeling that the song “A New York State of Mind” didn’t mean ‘in a state of utter confusion and frustration’. This maze might leave you feeling like that - it’s one of the more complex state mazes I’ve made so far. This was divided into ‘zones’, much like the Massachusetts maze, which adds an extra challenge.
The goal is to get from the tip of Long Island and exit into Pennsylvania on I-86 in the west. (Easy Mode is doing this in reverse - starting at I-86). The solution posted below is just one of many. This is a ‘flat’ maze - paths cannot go over/under each other. If that were the case you’d just ride the highways all the way out!

'The Eraser' Solution
Here is the solution for “The Eraser”, a maze I completed originally as a Secret Santa reddit gift back in 2016 (this version wasn’t finished until 2017). The title and the lined background came from inspiration from Thom Yorke’s solo album of the same name. I thought the album artwork looked rather mazey:
Connecticut Time-lapse and Solution
I finished this maze back in December 2018. It has two possible starts - either I-84 or I-95 in the southwest. The end is exiting out NE I-84 (toward Massachusetts).
The solution is just one possible route - there are multiple routes and detours! And you can try to exit out I-395 in the northeast, or out I-95 (to Rhode Island), for an extra challenge.
Biplane Vs. The Volcano Solution
Here is the solution to this classic maze from 2007! At least one possible solution - there may be other routes!
Yale University
I just finished drawing my Yale University maze this evening. I started with a campus map of all the various schools and colleges at Yale (parking lots, dormitories, etc are not included). I traced along some of the campus sidewalks and the cemetery roads (that’s the odd grid in the middle), but mostly I just meandered along, trying to connect all of the buildings together in one way or another.
This doesn’t have a proper start or finish. Instead, you can challenge yourself… can you get end-to-end? Or between two different sections? If you really want a challenge, try reaching every single building- yes it is possible!
Massachusetts
This one was actually a lot of fun to do. It’s full of weird little doodads and patterns in-between the maze pathways. You can see the process in the video here. That creepy little face on Cape Cod was completely incidental.
The maze starts on I-90 coming from NY and ends on Cape Cod (reverse that for an even more difficult maze).
The song is by Chris Zabriskie from his Undercover Vampire Policeman album.
New Hampshire Maze
Here is New Hampshire in all of its glory! This one took a lot longer than I expected, but overall turned out well. I think whichever state I do next (Vermont? Massachusetts?) will have far wider pathways. There's no reason these need to be the hardest mazes ever, after all.
The start of this maze is in the bottom right (Where I-95 crosses into the state), and the finish is the city of Concord.
I've never been to New Hampshire! Or New England for that matter. Drawing these has definitely sparked an interest though, I'd love to visit someday. Video of the drawing is below:
My Main Maine Maze
Find your way to Augusta Maine! This is the first maze in what I hope will become a series. We'll start with New England for now, if I can get all 50 states that would be amazing.
Take a look at the process in this video.
Good Mythical Morning
Hey there - It's been a while! I have a few new mazes planned, but I haven't had a chance to really sit down and focus on any lately. In the meantime, check out this Good Mythical Morning themed maze I made last year. GMM is a popular YouTube channel that I occasionally watch. This drawing was as much of an experiment in using my new Apple Pencil as it was anything else. But I think it turned out great. You can watch the step-by-step progress in the video below:
Stuff You Should Know Maze
Below is a video showing my progress of a Stuff You Should Know themed maze. For the uninitiated, Stuff You Should Know is a podcast from www.howstuffworks.com. The hosts Josh and Chuck cover just about any topic you can think of.
I listen to it frequently and after the success of my Good Mythical Morning themed maze, I thought I'd follow it with another show that I enjoy.
But - to be honest, I'm not all that thrilled with the way this turned out. The maze has no real focus - it sort of ended up as a big blob. The details are hard to spot too. You won't find this maze listed on the main page or in the store because I'm just not that happy with it. I may make a second attempt in the future.
From Idaho to Scotland...
This past December, I participated in my first Reddit Secret Santa gift exchange. I, of course, opted to send my gift exchange recipient a custom maze.
Redditgifts.com will send you a list of your recipients interests, so I had a pretty good idea of what to make the maze about. She was a big fan of the shows Adventure Time and Over the Garden Wall, she had always wanted to visit Scotland, and she dreamed of hang-gliding with her future husband some day.
You can watch the process here:
This maze would eventually become "The Eraser" maze, after I removed all of the Secret Santa-specific parts.
